If we grant Aristotle that human beings are political animals by nature, how do we manifest ourselves as such? This honours class offers an interdisciplinary investigation of what it means and what it takes to communicate our thoughts, express our selves, and question the status quo—in short, we will consider the construction and performance of political identities as a means to human freedom. By appreciating the political potential manifest in performance genres of art, dance, film, music, and theatre, we will arrive at fresh and creative insights about our engagement with anthropology, history, sociology, philosophy, and, naturally, politics.
There are 9 meetings from early April to early June, each lasting 2-3 hours, depending on the nature of each excursion into Political Arts.
